Up for auction is an antique cut glass Rouge or Powder Pot, Jar or Box, which would have been placed on a woman’s vanity table.  The Powder Jar has a sterling silver rim, insert/shelf (to hold a powder puff) and cover/lid, all of which have a gold wash.  The sides of the glass jar are etched with a garland of flowers, as well as cut spikes along the base.  Cut into the bottom of the jar is a starburst.  The sterling silver cover has a cork liner (to keep the powder dry), and the top is engraved with a monogram of what appears to be the letters “MC” (although upside down, it does look like a “JW”).  The powder jar stands approximately 1.875 inches tall, and the diameter of the opening of the jar measures approximately 3.75 inches across.  The Asprey mark is stamped into three sections – along the outer edge of the cover, to the underside of the insert, and along the outer edge of the rim.  Two of these marks include all of the following:  “ASPREY”, “LONDON”, “A & Co. Ltd”, the letter “B”, a Walking Rampant Lion, and a Leopard’s Face.
The Powder Jar is in great vintage condition, with minimal soiling and wear, and no cracks, chips, scratches, stains, discoloration, repairs, nor any damage to the glass, other than some minor surface scratches to the bottom of the piece.  The sterling silver is in great condition as well, other than some overall wear to the top surface of the cover, as well as the gold wash.
